This Sunday, November 16, the passage of the communist Jeannette Jara and the republican José Antonio Kast to the second round of the presidential elections has been defined. In parallel to these elections, the parliamentary elections have been held, where citizens have voted to elect the 155 members of the Chamber of Deputies and to renew 23 of the 50 members of the Senate. The results, which were consolidated during the early hours of this Monday, have confirmed the entry of several new faces making their debut in the National Congress. Some have a political past, others are complete newcomers who have been known for being activists, journalists, influencers and even relatives of the presidential standard bearers.
José Antonio Kast Adriasola
He is the son of the Republican candidate José Antonio Kast and has achieved a seat in district 10, which groups together the municipalities located in the central area of the Chilean capital such as Santiago, Providencia and Ñuñoa, among others. He has represented the party founded by his father and has obtained 8.8% of the preferences and has reached the third majority in the district.
Vanessa Kaiser
She is the sister of former libertarian candidate Johannes Kaiser and lawyer Axel Kaiser. He was a councilor for the municipality of Las Condes, in the eastern sector of the Chilean capital, between 2021 and 2022. He resigned from the position a few months after taking office. She has been elected as a senator for the region of La Araucanía, in southern Chile, as a representative of the National Libertarian Party. He has obtained 8.9% of the votes and has reached the second majority among all the candidates.
Zandra Parisi
She is the sister of the former People’s Party candidate, Franco Parisi. She has been elected as a representative for district 12, which includes the communes in the southeast of Santiago such as La Florida, Puente Alto and La Pintana, among others. Parisi has obtained only 2.5% of the votes, but has obtained the seat thanks to the large vote obtained by her partner on the list, deputy Pamela Jiles.
Javiera Rodríguez
She is a journalist, illustrator, student leader, and panelist on radio and television programs. She is one of the young representatives of the Chilean right. She has achieved election as a representative for the Republican Party after obtaining 4.9% of the votes in district 9, which includes municipalities in the northwestern sector of Santiago such as Recoleta and Renca, Conchalí, among others.
Javier Olivares
Communicator and television presenter. During the 2000s he encouraged youth programs Tremendous Shock and Mekano. He lived in the United States and worked at Telemundo and Univisión. In recent years he has become known for launching harsh criticism against the left through social networks. He has been elected as a deputy for district 6, which brings together the municipalities in the interior of the Valparaíso region such as Quillota, Quilpué, San Felipe and Los Andes, among others, as a representative of the People’s Party. He has obtained 5.4% of the valid votes.
Gustavo Gatica
Psychologist and activist. He is, along with Senator Fabiola Campillai, one of the emblematic victims of the ocular traumas recorded during the social outbreak of 2019. He has been elected as a deputy for district 8, which includes the communes in the western area of Santiago such as Maipú, Pudahuel and Quilicura, among others, and has achieved the first majority with 12% of the votes. He has presented himself as an independent, but has received the support of the Communist Party.
Constance Schönhaut
The lawyer is one of the founders of the Frente Amplio, the party of President Gabriel Boric. She has been elected as a representative for district 11, which includes the municipalities of Las Condes, Vitacura and Peñalolén, among others, in the eastern sector of Santiago. Schönhaut is one of the former members of the Constitutional Convention, the assembly that drafted the constitutional proposal that was rejected on September 4, 2022, who has won a seat in Congress. The other former conventionalists from different lists who have reached the Chamber of Deputies are Jaime Bassa (FA), Tatiana Urrutia (FA), Ignacio Achurra (FA), Marcos Barraza (PC), César Valenzuela (PS), Ricardo Neumann (UDI), Eduardo Cretton (UDI) and Constanza Hube (UDI). They have been joined by Roberto Celedón, who already serves as a deputy to replace his wife, the late deputy Mercedes Bulnes. Beatriz Sánchez has joined the Senate.
Cristian Contreras
He is a journalist and academic, who is known publicly as Dr. File. He achieved public notoriety by participating in several television programs as a disseminator of conspiracy theories and pseudoscience. During the 2021 elections he founded the United Center party and attempted to run for president. In the 2025 elections he ran as a candidate for deputy of the People’s Party in district 8, where he won his seat with 6.9% of the votes.
Cristian Vial
Retired Army General. He became known during the 2022 Military Parade, where he asked President Boric for authorization to start the parade. His gesture and body posture – which was considered “challenging” – before the president provoked multiple comments on social networks. Now he has been elected as a senator with the first majority (almost 20% of the votes) in the Maule region. He has run on the Republican Party ticket.
Sebastian Zamora
Former Carabineros official. He was charged with the crime of frustrated homicide for the fall of a minor from the Pio Nono bridge into the Mapocho River, in the center of Santiago, during a protest for the first anniversary of the social outbreak in October 2020. The corporal, who had been discharged from the institution, was acquitted and his reinstatement in the police force was ordered. He has presented himself as a candidate for deputy for district 7, which includes the municipalities of Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, San Antonio and Easter Island, among others, with the support of the Republican Party. He has won his seat with 4.6% of the votes.
Paz Charpentier
Lawyer and founder of movements and thought centers Voices for Chile. In 2021 she was a candidate for a conventional constituent for the Biobío region with the support of the UDI, of the traditional right, in an election where she was defeated. In 2025 he has run for the Chamber of Deputies with the support of the Republican Party in district 20, which makes up the municipalities of Concepción and Talcahuano, among others. He has won his parliamentary seat after obtaining 7.7% of the votes, the second district majority.
Pier Karlezi
Entrepreneur and social media personality. He hosts a podcast called Mestai Weviando (a Chilean expression to say you’re kidding me). He became known for his participation in the political debate television program No Filters. He has presented himself as a candidate for deputy of the National Libertarian Party for district 8, in Santiago, and has been elected deputy with 3% of the votes.
Patricio Briones
Former basketball player. He has been selected nationally and is considered one of the greatest exponents of the discipline. While he was at Dade University, in the United States, he had the opportunity to participate in a preparation camp in view of the 1994 NBA Draft. He has been elected as a representative for the 20th district, in Concepción, as a representative of the People’s Party. He has won with 3.1% of the preferences.
