The National Police has dismantled the first accelerationist terrorist cell in Spain, the most extreme version of white supremacism, in Castellón, after the arrest of three related people. Those investigated are linked to the organization The Base, created in 2018 to achieve white supremacy through terrorism and which has developed an international network of paramilitary cells with the aim of carrying out attacks.
The detainees had hardened their radical discourse in recent months and had encouraged violent actions, even openly stating that they were willing to carry out selective attacks to collapse Western democratic institutions, as reported by the National Police in a statement. The investigators assure that they were in a position to carry out attacks and had already undergone several tactical training with paramilitary techniques and material.
The investigation began at the beginning of 2025, when agents specialized in the fight against terrorism and against radicalism detected a highly radicalized individual aligned with the supremacist postulates of The Base. It was then discovered that it was a cohesive cell that included two more people who were highly radicalized and who based their lifestyle on the tenets of the terrorist organization.
The detainees are accused of crimes of membership in a terrorist organization and recruitment, indoctrination and training for terrorist purposes, as well as illicit possession of weapons. The leader of the cell has entered prison.
In recent times, the detainees had hardened their speech and were considering carrying out violent actions, even openly stating that they were willing to carry out selective attacks for the cause.
The agents detail that the supremacist cell used social networks to recruit new militants, glorify violent actions of other terrorist organizations and share audiovisual content of an accelerationist nature with other users. Furthermore, the leader of the Spanish cell was in direct contact with the founder of The Base, who a month ago made a call for the consolidation of internationally expanded cells and the execution of selective attacks in order to collapse Western democratic institutions.
This, added to the observed collection of weapons, led the agents to launch a police operation in the early hours of last Tuesday to arrest the leader and his two top collaborators. Nine weapons have been seized, two of them firearms, ammunition, around twenty knives, military tactical equipment used in training activities, material and documentation of a supremacist nature, propaganda from the organization The Base, neo-Nazi paraphernalia and documentation from terrorist organizations in five searches carried out in the province of Castellón.
The operation has been led by the General Information Commissioner’s Office with the support of the Castellón Provincial Information Brigade, under the direction of the National Court Prosecutor’s Office, and EUROPOL agents have participated. The investigation remains ongoing under the direction of the head of the Central Investigative Court number six of the National Court, who has ordered the cell leader to be imprisoned.
