Joaquín Guzmán López, son of capo Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán pleaded guilty this Monday to two charges of drug trafficking and organized crime for his participation in the Sinaloa Cartel before a Northern Illinois District Court, according to national media. It is the confirmation of an act planned since last Friday, when a judicial letter spread on the networks announced that the son of the great Mexican boss would convert his hearing into a change of statement. Guzmán López, 39 years old, thus becomes the second Guzmán family member to collaborate with the United States Government. His little brother Ovidio did it before, who pleaded guilty to drug trafficking on July 11 before the same judge, Sharon Johnson.
Guzmán López was the strategist of the movement that brought one of Chapo’s historical associates, Ismael, before the US authorities. May Zambada, at the end of July 2024 in El Paso, Texas. Before the court he has acknowledged his role in the arrest of the big boss of the Sinaloan cartel who had never been to prison in his criminal life and for whom Washington offered a $15 million reward for his capture. In that maneuver against El Mayo, Guzmán López was also arrested, about whom not much public information has emerged and who always maintained a low profile to avoid falling into the hands of the authorities.
