Kast, upon arriving at the debate: “Our government program does not consider any pardons”
The candidate of the Republican Party, José Antonio Kast, was the first to arrive at the studios of TVN, Chile’s public station, where the Anatel debate is taking place. The ultra-conservative standard-bearer, who has arrived on the channel together with his wife, Pía Adriasola, has appeared at a previous press conference where he responded to the criticism of the left-wing candidate, Jeannette Jara, who has accused him of evading answers in the previous meetings in which they have participated. The former deputy has taken with humor the questions about the use of the concept “it depends”, which he resorted to to avoid providing detailed answers during the previous Archi forum. “There is a song called Dependsof Jara de Palowhich is very pretty,” said Kast. In his response, the candidate made a play on words between his opponent’s last name, the group Jarabe de Palo, and the Chilean phrase wooden facewhich is used to talk about shameless people.
The Republican has also reacted to the controversy unleashed by the statements of José Carlos Meza, a representative of his party, who has said that he would support pardons for older people, including those convicted of sexual abuse of minors. Kast has said that this initiative is a project that is in full debate in Congress and that it is not part of his proposals. “Our government program does not consider any pardon (…) the only ones who have pardoned abusers and terrorists are in this Government,” he declared.
