This Tuesday, the Port of A Coruña was the scene of a special operation to remove from the sea a 21-meter dead whale, which was dismembered for transport. It was Maritime Rescue that reported that on Saturday, December 13, a lifeless cetacean weighing about 30 tons appeared adrift on the coast of O Portiño. At that moment, the Helimer 401 helicopter and the Salvamar Betelgeuse boat were mobilized to tow it to the Oza dock in A Coruña and thus guarantee navigation safety in the area.
The Port Authority has explained that the mammal appeared stranded on Saturday and that due to its size, an operation was carried out to remove it, with a crane and with the participation of the staff of the Coordinator for the Study of Marine Mammals (CEMMA). “They had to lift it to the dock with a crane,” they said from the Port before proceeding to cut up the whale with elements according to its size.
