What is happening now with the Artemis 2 mission?
Artemis 2 continues its unstoppable journey into space and, after crossing the Kármán line at about 100 km altitude, it has continued to accelerate and gain altitude to enter orbit around the Earth.
In that ascent, after eight minutes of flight the central stage of the SLS rocket has turned off its engines and separated after completely consuming its enormous tank of liquid hydrogen and oxygen, fulfilling its function and leaving the mission in a still temporary and unstable initial orbit.
In a few moments the Orion spacecraft will deploy its four solar panels while remaining docked to the upper stage of the rocket, the ICPS (Interim Cryogenic Propulsion Stage), which is responsible for providing the additional thrust necessary to continue rising and consolidate its orbital trajectory.
