Iran exempts Iraq from restrictions imposed in the Strait of Hormuz
The spokesman for the main Iranian military command center – the Central Headquarters of the Seal of the Prophets – has assured that Iraq will not be affected by the limitations imposed by Tehran in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that these measures are directed exclusively against countries considered hostile. “Iraq is exempt from any restrictions that we have imposed in the Strait of Hormuz. These restrictions only apply to enemy countries,” declared the Iranian military representative, in a message collected by the semi-official Tasnim news agency in which he also highlighted the relationship between both countries.
In the same intervention, the military spokesperson wanted to highlight the support of the Iraqi population for Iran, ensuring that this support has been key in the current context. “In all honesty, we affirm that the Iranian nation was not alone in the battle. Although we were on the front line of the battlefield, the unconditional support and steadfastness of you, the proud Muslim people of Iraq, were also with us; your support continues to be an incentive to strengthen our determination and perseverance in the fight,” he said.
Likewise, he has reiterated the exclusion of Iraq from any restrictions on the strategic Hormuz sea route, insisting on Iran’s respect for Iraqi sovereignty. “I declare that our brother country, Iraq, is exempt from any restrictions that we have imposed in the Strait of Hormuz, and that these restrictions only apply to enemy countries,” he stressed.
The spokesperson has also made reference to Iraq’s recent past, highlighting its history of conflict and its relationship with the United States; a past for which he has shown “deep respect”: “You are a nation that bears the scars of the American occupation, and your fight against the United States is worthy of recognition and praise,” he added. “Iran and Iraq stood united in the same trench and, hand in hand, they will achieve victory in this historic battle against the vengeful enemy and the great demon, that is, the United States and its agents, as well as against Israel, a country that murders children,” concluded (EP)
