Hezbollah launches attacks on Tel Aviv and Ashdod, central Israel, leaving no victims
The Shiite group Hezbollah launched barrages of missiles on Tel Aviv and its surroundings early Friday morning, one of the waves of attacks that has reached the furthest south in Israel, with no casualties or direct hits reported. The sirens were activated around one in the morning in areas of the center of the country, including the coastal city of Ashdod, where the attack was directly aimed, according to the Israeli Army in information collected by local media. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the activation of the alarms in Tel Aviv was due to falling debris and shrapnel from the intercepted missiles.
The Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service assured that no injuries or victims were reported. This is one of the southernmost attacks carried out by Hezbollah within the framework of this new chapter of conflict between the Jewish State and the pro-Iranian group, triggered by the joint offensive between Israel and the United States against Iran. Hezbollah also announced more barrages in northern Israel, over the border region with Lebanon.
While Iran claims that Lebanon should be included in the ceasefire agreed two days ago with the United States, Washington and Tel Aviv reject this position. The Government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that it will begin direct negotiations with Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah, while the United States assures that it will host these dialogues. The Shiite group, for its part, considers Israel’s attacks on Lebanon a violation of the ceasefire. (Efe)
