The Bridge of the Virgin of August, one of those that records the greatest circulation of vehicles throughout the year, has ended with 13 people killed in many other mortal sinister, as reported on Monday, the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT). This agency dependent on the Ministry of Interior estimated that from three in the afternoon of Thursday 14 until midnight on Sunday 18, seven million displacements were going to be produced. These were due to three holidays, at the change of fortnight and the beginning or end of the holidays for many people and, finally, to the celebration of numerous popular festivals throughout the geography, which made the journeys increase in a short period of time.
Of the 13 deaths, eight were the so -called vulnerable users: five motorists, a cyclist and two pedestrians. Seven of the accidents occurred on conventional roads – a lane for each sense of circulation – and the other six on highways or highways. There have been seven road exits, two collisions and two pedestrian abuses, according to the DGT data.
The worst day was on Sunday 18 with six accidents and six fatalities, followed by Thursday 14 with four deaths -despite being only nine hours in the accounting of the accident rate, at the beginning of the operation at 15.00-. On Friday 15, holiday, there was only a mortal sinister with one dead and on Saturday 16, two with two deaths, according to traffic information.
The claims took place in Baeza (Jaén), Dénia (Alicante), San Cristóbal de Cuéllar (Segovia), Picanya (Valencia), Alfaro (La Rioja), Ávila (Ávila), Alburquerque (Badajoz) Les Llosses and Viladamat (Girona), carataunas (Granada), Adeje (Santa Cruz de Tenerife) (Valladolid). So far they have lost their lives on Spanish roads 696 people. Since August 1 they have died in road accidents 64 and there is still half of the month and, above all, the return of the summer operation, which this year coincides with a weekend.
During the first hours of the bridge there were no circulation problems and the return of it was staggered, so there were no major incidents. Some roads, especially conventional ones, were cut by the fires that ravage the peninsula, for days. The Civil Guard Trafficking Group intensified alcohol, drugs and speed controls, especially in popular celebrations areas, to try to reduce road accidents.
In this holiday period, traffic has made a special call to prudence and respect the circulation signals, in addition to not exceeding the speed limits, not to drive if alcohol or drugs have been consumed, to use the protection systems, such as the seat belt and the helmet, and to monitor the maintenance of the vehicle, in addition to maintaining the attention in the short routes, which are in which the most accidents occur.
