The Quintana Roo Prosecutor’s Office reported this Sunday that the Sedena military, Jairo N, who allegedly sexually abused a 9 -year -old girl on the island of Cozumel, on August 30, has already been linked to the process and faces preventive detention for the crimes of injury, illegal deprivation of sexual freedom and abuse. The State Attorney General, Raciel López Salazar, however, defended the actions of the Army after the complaint and assured that they are the most interested in doing justice: “This aggression (it is) very unfortunate that it has happened with a 9 -year -old girl, but we must recognize here the great collaboration of the Mexican Army, which would not allow a reprobable conduct to be unpunished,” he said in conference to media this Monday. At least 40 groups in the country have demanded from local and federal authorities to be given the maximum penalty to Jairo N and stop revictimizing the child’s family.
This case has left many questions that both the girl’s family, and several dozens of groups in Mexico, demand that they be clarified. For example, know who were the other minors that the girl has reported that she met inside the military’s house, and that the man presented as her daughters. According to the victim’s testimony, reported through her parents, a girl like her age and two other teenagers were in the house, and it was in their presence when the first touches began by the aggressor.
One of the members of the collective always united, who has asked not to be cited by his name, for security reasons, assures with concern that the process that has been given since it was learned that the child had been attacked by the military, has been victimizing for her and her family. Some people, neighbors of the area, and in social networks, have directly blamed the parents, both local sellers of low resources, echoing one of the first statements of the mayor of Cozumel, José Luis Chacón, when he held responsible for what happened to the “carelessness” of his family.
This activist says: “It seems to us that the crimes for which it was linked (Jairo N) are not enough. The revictimizing process for the family is fierce, especially by the municipal president. We are also very concerned with the other girls. The Prosecutor’s Office must investigate, for the simple fact that in a press release it was mentioned that they can ask for an order to verify that the other girls are well, to begin with, if they were really well, if they were really well.
After several hours of having launched his first impressions on August 30, Chacón said that his statements had been taken out of context and clarified that from the first moment he had been in contact with the family, providing them with all the support. “There is no margin or place to not condemn any abuse and even more so when it comes to a minor, no matter, the place, or the moment, cannot be justified, tolerate, or allow the violation of a minor, we are on the side of the population and ensure their care,” said the mayor’s office of Cozumel to this medium, on September 3.
However, the family has denounced irregularities in their case and a chain of decisions that have revictimized them. They assure that they made them sign false statements and that local authorities tried to convince them to accept that they knew the military before, as a client who frequently bought them. “I would like to make public that if something happens to me or my family, I take responsibility for the militia, the prosecution and the municipal president. Because they have harassed us,” the parents said.
In a joint statement, some 40 organizations and collective celebrated the link to Jairo N, but clarified that there was still a lot to do: “This advance is important, but not sufficient. This aggressor committed more crimes than he faces today in court, including pedophilia, corruption of minors, aggravating for being an active military, attempt to violate and attempt at child feminicide,” they say. “In addition, the DIF Cozumel has not given any explanation about the other girls mentioned in the statement: where are they? Do they receive attention? Are they protected? If they were daughters of the aggressor, their safety and care must be a priority.”
Last Saturday, August 30, the 9 -year -old girl sold fried foods near the military barracks of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) in Cozumel, when she was intercepted on public roads by Jairo N, who was traveling on her motorcycle. It was in that vehicle in which he went up to the child and took her to the military garrison. With military witnesses and with the permission of who guarded the entrance to the complex, he was able to enter with the girl without anyone preventing him from passing or questioning why he was entering a minor with him.
According to the testimony of her parents, the little girl was taken to the house, then to an area of Monte, where she was allegedly attacked sexually, and then when she tried to escape she was thrown from the motorcycle to the street. The news quickly met on social networks, and hundreds of furious citizens reached the garrison to confront the military.
