The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has ordered to interrupt all diplomatic contact with Venezuela. The Republican has asked his special envoy for the South American country, Richard Grenelll, to stop every approach with Chavismo, also contacts with President Nicolás Maduro, according to government sources cited on Monday by The New York Times.
The order arrives in full climb of tension with the Bolivarian government. On Friday, the Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, announced a new extrajudicial military operation off the Venezuelan coasts against a boat that supposedly transported drugs. The United States Army killed its four crew. Hegseth described them, without providing evidence, of “narcoterrorist.”
It is the fourth known attack in recent weeks, and in none of them has contributed evidence Washington. At least 21 people have died in those operations for which Trump understands that he does not need the authorization of the Congress by being considered acts of a “war” declared by the same to drug trafficking from Venezuela and Maduro, whom he considers leader of the narco.
Maduro, who last year attributed an electoral triumph against the opponent Edmundo González without presenting reliable evidence of the result, has repeatedly accused the US government of trying to expel him from power. In August, the Department of Justice doubled up to 50 million dollars the reward for information that leads to their arrest, accusing the president links with the criminal megabanda of Venezuelan origin Train of Aragua and to lead the so -called poster of Los Soles.
