Former United States President Joe Biden, 82, will undergo radiotherapy in a new part of his cancer treatment, according to the NBC portal reported this Saturday. A spokesman for the former president informed the network that radiotherapy will be part of a “care plan” against aggressive prostate cancer, with metastasis to the bones, whose diagnosis was made public last May. The radiation sessions will last five weeks and will be combined with hormonal treatment, according to the spokesperson.
In early September, it was learned that Biden recently underwent surgery to remove cancer cells from his skin. Biden left the White House last January as the oldest U.S. president in office. During his tenure his fitness to continue in the position was questioned due to his age and health.
In February 2023, Biden had a cancerous lesion in his chest removed in a successful operation, after which the then-White House doctor assured that no additional treatment was required. At the beginning of 2024, Biden’s personal doctor declared him fit to continue in the position after a physical examination.
The former Democratic president abandoned the race for re-election in mid-2024 and supported the candidacy of his vice president, Kamala Harris, who was defeated at the polls by Donald Trump.
