A fire in a nursing home in Carrión de Calatrava (3,233 inhabitants, Ciudad Real) early this Saturday left one user dead and 96 elderly people evacuated, in addition to several affected by smoke inhalation.
The deceased, whose sex and age are unknown at the moment, is one of the residents of the Virgen de La Encarnación Nursing Home. The fire started in his room and after 6:00 this Saturday forced the building to be evacuated and 96 of its users to evacuate. Five of them have been relocated to relatives’ homes and the rest have been transferred to the Municipal Sports Center.
The fire, whose causes are being investigated, also leaves three affected by smoke inhalation evacuated to the General Hospital of Ciudad Real. These are two workers aged 54 and 56 and a resident transferred by his family to the same health center. Members of the Civil Guard, firefighters from Daimiel and Ciudad Real, a mobile ICU, seven ambulances and Red Cross volunteers traveled to the scene.

The fire, reports 112 of Castilla-La Mancha, is already extinguished. According to these sources, the fire could have originated “due to a possible failure in an electrical conduit,” although the ongoing investigation will clarify the causes.
