Israel has intensified on Wednesday its bombings on Gaza, where more than 70 people have died during the early morning, according to the Ministry of Health of the Strip. The attacks have been especially taught with Yabalia, in the north of the Strip, and the refugee camp of that town, where at least 50 of those victims have died. That place of just over a square kilometer of surface is one of the most devastated areas of the occupied Palestinian territory. There are practically only ruins, but the Israeli army continues to bombard them. Especially since Tuesday, the same day in which the US president Donald Trump began a tour of the Middle East that has left Israel out.
The images spread on this day by Palestinian media show an absolute desolation panorama, with destroyed buildings and helps that some people removed to try to find survivors. As has been happening from the beginning of Israeli bombings, most of those victims were women and children, Palestinian sources have underlined.
According to sources from the Indonesian hospital, located in northern Gaza, at least 22 children and 15 women have perished in the bombings of the last hours in Yabalia and their refugee camp. Several videos and photographs released on the Internet by Palestinian sources show numerous corpses on the ground, several of them of minors. In one of the recordings, a child of a few months appears with an amputated leg at the height of the thigh, while a sanitary tries to assist him.
In a list of victims released by the health authorities of the Strip in March were, with name and surname, 876 children under one year killed by the Israeli offensive in Gaza. In that list, whose figures have increased since then until this Wednesday 52,900 dead were 15,613 minors.
The attacks in this morning have occurred only hours after those who hit both the north and southern the strip, and included the bombing of the European Hospital of Jan Yunis. That bombing killed at least 16 people and wounded another 70.
According to different Israeli media, the objective of that attack was the current leader of Hamas in Gaza: Mohamed Sinwar. The Israeli authorities argue that Sinwar was hiding in a bunker under the medical center, something that Hamas denies. Israel usually uses that argument, that of existence, supposed underground secret facilities, to justify its hospitals bombings, something that, according to international humanitarian law, can constitute a war crime.
In the resumption of its onslaught on Wednesday, in addition to the attacks on Yabalia, the Israeli forces bombarded the coastal area of Al Mawasi, in the south of the territory, to which Israel no longer even defines as “humanitarian” after having spent months urging the Palestinians to take refuge there. An Israeli drone bombed several tents on that narrow coastal strip. At least two girls and a woman died, according to Wafa.
The bombings began shortly after, before midnight, the Israeli army Arab spokesman, Avichay Adraee, published a message on their social networks urging those who take refuge in the ruins of Yabalia to leave the place.
Mohamed Sinwar
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz He quoted military sources on Tuesday night that ensure that the bombing of the European Hospital of Jan Yunis was target the current leader of Hamas in Gaza: Mohamed Sinwar. This leader is Yahia Sinwar’s younger brother, the leader who died in an Israeli attack in Rafah, next to the border with Egypt, last October. After the death of his brother, the youngest of the Sinwar – also considered a representative of the hard line of Hamas – assumed his leadership.
It is not clear if Sinwar has managed to survive this new attempt to murder by Israel, who has tried to kill him without success on several occasions.
According to a video statement released on social networks of the British surgeon Tom Potokar, of the International Red Cross Committee, the explosions affected departments of the hospital where children were treated who were waiting for a medical evacuation. Also to minors with cancer.
Meanwhile, the catastrophic situation of the population of Gaza – something more than 2.2 million people – continues to deteriorate, a month and a half after Israel completely prevented the entry of humanitarian aid into the strip in early March. The UN Humanitarian Affairs Chief Tom Fletcher, warned the countries of the Emergency Security Council on Tuesday to act with decision to “prevent genocide and guarantee respect for international humanitarian law” in the strip.
The acute food insecurity suffered by the entire population of Gaza, as a result of 19 months of attacks but especially due to that blockade, will lead about half a million Palestinians to a famine before September arrives, if a high fire and Israel are not achieved, it still does not allow the entry of food, medicines and fuel, among other basic supplies. That is the conclusion of the latest report, released on Monday, of the experts who prepare the integrated class classification (CIF, in Spanish, IPC, in English), the index of the scope of malnutrition, malnutrition and hunger, worldwide recognized and elaborated at the request of the UN and other international organizations.
