Kamala Harris has reappeared this Wednesday just when Donald Trump’s government turns 100 days. The former president of the United States has abandoned the low profile that she had maintained since her electoral defeat to criticize the Republican President in a charity gala organized in San Francisco, the city that saw her born as a policy. “Instead of advancing the highest ideals in the United States, this administration has abandoned them completely,” said Harris in what has been his first speech since he left the White House with Joe Biden at the end of January.
Harris had been seen little since then. They are counted the times that photographers have portrayed her in Los Angeles, where she resides with her husband, lawyer Doug Emhoff. One of these occasions was after the great fires that destroyed the communities of Pacific Palisades and Altadena, where he met with some volunteers and firefighters who fought against the flames.
The former presidential candidate was the main speaker on the number 20 of Emerge, an organization that has prepared some 6,000 women to join the ranks of the Democratic Party. Emerge promoted in the elections passed to some 400 candidates throughout the country. Andrea Dew Steele, the founder of the group, coordinated Harris’s campaign to San Francisco District Prosecutor in 2003, the position that launched her to national politics.
With his speech on Wednesday, Harris has injected energy into the Democratic Base. “They (the Trump government) have that fear will have a contagious effect. They do not realize that it is not the only thing that is infected. The value is also, and the Americans are being assembled as a value for the largest economic crisis created by a president in the modern era,” said Harris, who has been received with an ovation at the Palace Hotel.
With a speech that has barely overcome the 15 minutes, Harris has been placed again under the reflectors. He has done it at a time when his party seeks voices that speak strong and clear about the excesses of Trump and the chaos that his government has unleashed in a few months.
“We are witnessing a high -speed event where an agenda is being implemented that takes a long time under construction: cuts to public education, reduce the government, privatize services. Everything while tax benefits are given to the richest. We are living in the country’s vision of that group, but which is not the vision of the majority,” Harris said as a closure. “I am not here to offer answers, but to tell you that they are not alone. This will probably get worse before improving, but we are ready to fight,” he added.
The reappearance of the former Vice President occurs after weeks of rumors that point to the value of a campaign for the position of Governor of California, the great fief of her party in the United States. The current governor, Gavin Newsom, reaches the end of his mandate without the possibility of being re -elected in 2026. Several Democratic profiles and a pair of Republicans have already announced their intention to participate in the autumn elections of 2026. But Harris, who received 9.2 million votes last year in the entity, would immediately become the great favorite.
Harris continues to receive donations despite his defeat. The 2024 elections exceeded 1.5 billion dollars in support, being the second most expensive contest in history behind the 2020 presidential. The former Vice President continues to request resources through Harris Fight Fund, a committee that receives support from the National Democratic Party and state agencies. The former candidate has about 4.5 million dollars to spend.
“Today at midnight, the game makes its first great donation closure since the last election,” the Fund said in a message sent to its supporters this Wednesday. “The press and administration will be aware of these results to know how much enthusiasm there is to stop the Trump agenda,” adds the message, which requested aid between 3 and 250 dollars. In summer it will be known if part of that money is invested for the campaign as Governor of Harris.
