Flights to Puerto Vallarta from the United States and Canada remain canceled
Airlines such as Air Canada, Delta and United Airlines this Monday maintained their canceled flights to and from the Mexican city of Puerto Vallarta, in Jalisco, due to the violence unleashed after the death of capo Nemesio Oseguera, alias El Menchoin an operation by the Mexican security forces.
This Monday, the Puerto Vallarta Airport showed canceled flights from the US airlines United, Delta, Sun Country, Alaska Airlines, and Southwest, and the Canadian airlines Westjet and Air Canada. Among the affected cities in the United States were Houston, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Denver, San Diego, Detroit, Atlanta, Santa Ana, San Jose, New York, and Phoenix, as well as Canadian cities Edmonton, Saskatoon, Toronto, Kelowna, Vancouver, Winnipeg, and Regina.
In contrast, American Airlines flights remained as planned, while in Guadalajara, the capital of Jalisco, operations continued from Atlanta, Houston, Phoenix, Fort Worth, Las Vegas, San José, Denver, Anchorage and Los Angeles, with only Salt Lake City canceled from the United States.
Given the events, the United States Department of State maintained a travel alert this Monday, issued since Sunday, “due to persistent security operations and related road blockades and criminal activity”, which is why it “urges US citizens to take shelter in several cities in Mexico.”
President Claudia Sheinbaum assured this Monday in her morning conference that “all roads are free, you can circulate” and that the airlines “suspended some flights preventively”, but she hopes that “during the day or, at the latest, tomorrow they will be re-established”.
