China and the European Union have announced the temporary suspension of imports from the South American country
Brazil, the largest world exporter of poultry faces a capital aviar flu outbreak, which already adds the death of 17,000 farm chickens, either due to illness or preventive sacrifice.
The disease was initially detected at the end of last year in a commercial farm and has extended rapidly by Rio Grande do Sul, the state that represents 15% of the national poultry production.
China and the European Union, buyers of Brazilian poultry exports, have announced the suspension of operations to contagion. The veterinary authorities are isolating the outbreak area in Montenegro and looking for more cases in an initial 10 kilometers, said the State Ministry of Agriculture.
Genetic tests are also performed to determine if the avian flu is related to the virus that killed a hundred wild birds in the Sapucaia do Sul Zoo. The animal sanctuary is located 50 kilometers from one of the farms where the outbreak was detected.
