Two of the highest institutional positions of the European Union, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, will receive the representatives of three associations of victims of the DANA on Tuesday that caused 228 dead on October 29 in the province of Valencia. The two policies, which are part of the European Popular Party group, will meet the demands and explanations of the association of victims of the Dana Horta Sud-Valencia, the Association of Victimes de la Dana 29 d’Ecupo and the Association fatal victims Dana 29-0, which gather hundreds of relatives and relatives of deaths and victims. None of them have been received by the President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, of the PP, or by the president of Les Cortes Valencianes, Llanos Massó, of Vox.
Both formations on the right agreed a work plan for the DANA Research Commission in the Valencian Parliament in which the voice of the victims was excluded, among the more than 80 approved appearances of politicians, technicians and experts. They refused the presence not only of the three associations indicated but also of the rest. Mazón has only officially met with the Entity SOS missing (last March 27), and with some relatives of personal deceased in the Palau de la Generalitat.
The president of SOS disappeared, Joaquín Amills, transferred to the Chief of the Consell “all the pain of families, the desire to assume what happened and ask for forgiveness.” He also requested his resignation and voluntarily declared before the judge of Catarroja, who investigates the management of the Dana, as the magistrate herself has proposed on several occasions. The three entities that now travel to Brussels are very critical of the management of the Dana de Mazón and many of its members have requested their resignation, participating in the mass demonstrations convened for this purpose in Valencia.
The parliamentary spokesman in Les Corts, José María Llanos, justified the absence of the associations of victims of the Dana because they are entities formed not by “true affected” but by “true interested parties” and are “controlled” by political parties. As indicated, these are “people, some in good faith, manipulated by political parties that what they want is to bring the movement of the street to political activity.”
His words generated a strong rejection and indignation among the affected associations, some of which announced that they study possible judicial measures against Llanos. The PP spokesman, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, said that the victims “deserve all the respect of the world” and that “if any wants”, may be in the investigation commission, although they were not summoned by their own party in the work plan. The opposition called “bad people” and “lack of humanity” to the Vox representative.
A few days before the start of the Congress of the European Popular Party in Valencia, which was held between May 29 and 30, the Ursula Von der Leyen team responded to the letter of the associations that had been addressed to it that the requested meeting would take place in Brussels on May 13 and not during the conclave in the city also affected by the floods, as in the beginning he had requested. Mazón was seen in Congress the last day, without participating in the photo of the final group.
Association representatives also plan to meet on Tuesday with various deputies of the European Parliament. The first attempt to hear his voice in this institution Europe was through the Commission of Petitions, but the deputies of the formations on the right rejected it two months ago.
The three associations have agreed to accept all meetings invitations with parliamentary groups, commissions and parliamentarians from different countries that arrive, according to a statement they sent last Friday. At 11 the meeting is scheduled with von der Leyen already 13, with Metsola.
In addition, the entities will participate in a joint press conference to assess the meetings at 2:00 p.m. in the European Parliament. There, they will also present the claims that will lead to Europe “unitedly” and in which they have worked throughout the weekend. They will talk about their needs, the management of the DANA, its consequences and its causes, among other issues.
