Leo XIII was the first Pope to be filmed by a camera in 1896. After months of negotiations, according to the most widespread version, finally the Holy See authorized the entry of the Vatican recording team. The tape, entitled Sua Santità Pope Leone XIII and directed by Vittorio Calcina, consists of three parts. In the first, Pope Leo XIII appears surrounded by bishops and his trusted team. In the second, the Vatican gardens and the papal carriage appear on the left thrown by a couple of black horses and driven by a coachman. And the last part, Pope Leo XIII low from his carriage and is received from knees by Cardinal Della Volpe, whom he greets before giving the last blessing to the camera.
