While the programs for other refugees have been suspended, this community enjoyed expedited process for entry to the United States
The Trump administration has welcomed a small group of White South Africans, also known as Afrikanérs, as refugees, stating that they face discrimination and violence in their country. This despite the resistance of the Government of South Africa, which denies persecution against this community.
The decision to admit to the 49 people on Monday has also raised questions among refugees defenders about why the group should be admitted when the Trump administration has suspended efforts to resettle people fleeing people and persecution and have gone through years of research before coming to the United States.
