Lammy asks “to be prepared” in case peace is not achieved in Ukraine
The British Foreign Minister David Lammy, on Monday to “be prepared” in itself, despite the steps towards negotiations in Ukraine, peace is not achieved. He has done it before starting in London a meeting with the representatives of the largest countries of the European Union.
“It is the time for (the Russian president, Vladimir) Putin to seriously go with peace, high fire and negotiations (…). We in Europe of course we will prepare for any peace and that will be a substantial part of our conversations this morning. But we must also be prepared in case this is not the time for Putin’s seriousness and we do not get peace,” he said.
Speaking to the press at the Lancaster House Palace, in downtown London, where he will receive representatives from Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Poland and the EU, Lammy has indicated that it will be important that the ministers meet after the trip of the leaders of the “Volunteer Coalition” to kyiv this weekend.
He has been grateful for European countries to address the need to strengthen the defense of the continent in this Monday’s conversations. In the same way, he has recognized the will of President Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, to participate in the negotiations proposed by Putin next Thursday in Istanbul.
“We have been clear with our European partners with which we want to see a high fire and lasting peace,” he added, before remembering that last month he was the deadliest for minors in Ukraine for a long time.
At the meeting of the so -called Weimar+ Group – which encompasses France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, the United Kingdom and the EU – it is expected that new sanctions will be announced to “actors that support the Russian illegal invasion”, according to a statement from the Foreign Office.
