The Israeli army ensures that it has captured an “Iranian terrorist cell” in Syria
The Israeli army said Wednesday that it has dismantled an “Iranian terrorist cell” in southern Syria during an operation during the night that resulted in the capture of an indeterminate number of “terrorists.”
“In the light of the intelligence information received in recent weeks as a result of investigations, the Armed Forces carried out a concentrated night operation that resulted in the capture of several terrorists,” reports the spokesman for the Israeli army in the Arab language, Avichay Adraee.
The arrests occurred in southern Syria, where Israel since 1967 occupies the Golán highs and where it has intensified its operations since the fall of the Bashar al Asad regime last December. During the operation, the Israeli troops also requisitioned “combat equipment, including weapons and hand grenades” in the area where they arrested the alleged terrorists, Adraee explained.
“The Armed Forces continue their efforts to prevent the establishment of any terrorist group in Syria and protect the citizens of Israel, especially the residents of the Golán Altos,” adds the military spokesman in Arabic.
The Chief of the Israeli army, Eyal Zamir, visited the area yesterday and spoke with the soldiers deployed in Syria, who said that the neighboring country is “in a state of exchange”, so they must operate through the border to defend “in the best possible way” the “key positions” that Israel maintains.
“We will attack where necessary before any real or emerging danger,” Zamir said after ensuring that the goal highs are for Israel “an advanced defense zone”, where “proactive operations to prevent threats.”
He also added that the army is attacking “all the components of the axis that Iran has built” against Israel. “Now we have acted strongly against the head of that axis: the Iranian regime and the revolutionary guard,” he said.
Israel launched an attack on military facilities and the Iranian nuclear program on June 13, which led to an armed confrontation between the two countries that ended after twelve days of bombing when the US president, Donald Trump, announced a high fire. (EFE)
