The Israeli opposition leader states that the decision on Gaza is “a disaster”
The leader of the Israeli opposition, Yair Lapid, has affirmed that the decision of the Israeli government to advance his offensive in the strip and occupy the city of Gaza, a northern city of one million inhabitants, “it is a disaster that will lead to many more disasters.”
Lapid states in his X account that the decision of the Israeli Executive is “in complete contradiction with the opinion of the army and security officials” and does not take into account “the wear and tear and exhaustion of the combatant forces.”
The opposition leader believes that the two ultra -nationalist ministers and Israeli settlers – that of Finance, Bezalel Smotrich, and the National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir – have dragged the prime minister, Benjamín Netanyahu, to a decision that will “take months” and “will lead to the death of the hostages and many soldiers.”
In addition, he says that this plan “will cost Israeli taxpayers tens of billions and will lead to a political collapse.” “This is exactly what Hamás wanted: that Israel be trapped in a territory without a goal, without defining the panorama for the next day, in a useless occupation that nobody understands where it leads,” he says.
The Security Cabinet of the Government of Israel gave green light in the early hours of this Friday to a military plan proposed by Netanyahu to occupy the city of Gaza, in the north of the enclave and welcomes one million people. Speaking to the Fox chain prior to the cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said that its goal was to occupy all Gaza, but that it does not intend to keep it or govern it, but to maintain a “security perimeter” and deliver it to “Arab forces that govern it” without threatening Israel and without Hamas.
