The residents of the Zaragoza municipalities of Zuera and San Mateo de Gállego are confined on Monday morning due to a fire that has been declared last early in the chemical company Unión Derivan, located in Zuera.
The 8,700 inhabitants of Zuera and the more than 3,000 of neighboring San Mateo have woken up with the 112 sirens after activating the emergency phase Level 1 of the external emergency plan of Zuera in accordance with the protocols established for facilities with chemical risk, in response to the severity of the incident.
Firefighters of the Provincial Council of Zaragoza and the City of Zaragoza have moved to the area to work in fire control and try to minimize the risks associated with the incident, as reported by the Aragonese government.
Among the recommendations of the emergency center to protect yourself from a possible toxic cloud is not to go out until it is safe, close doors and windows, turn off the air conditioning or ventilation systems to avoid the entry of toxic gases from the outside, listen to the local radio stations where instructions and recommendations will be given, close the gas key, disconnect electricity, and avoid taking refuge inside a vehicle.
As a preventive measure, the A-124 road between the 0.600 and 4 kilometer points has also been cut to traffic, affecting access to the El Campillo industrial estate, in Zuera. At the moment, there is no record that they have occurred injured, as detailed by the Government of Aragon.
