Marta Ortega already made it clear when she took over her father in 2022: the company was going to focus more than ever on creating fashion, not only replicating her and her great passion, photography, was going to be a central element in her communication strategy. The events scheduled to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the textile giant, jewel of the Crown of Inditex, Zara, give proof that the truth told.
Today, exactly five decades after the opening of Zara’s first store in A Coruña, a film directed by the legendary photographer Steven Meisel, personal friend of the president of the company, in which fifty of the best films in the world: Abbey Lee, Adriana Lima, Alek Wek, Amar Akway, Amber Valletta, Amelia Gray, Awar, Ordhiang, Candice Swanepoel, Carla Bruni, Caroline Trentini, Carolyn Murphy, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, Doutzen Kroes, Edie Campbell, Eva Herzigova, Fei Fei Sun, Georgia Moot, He Cong, Imaan Hammam, Irina Shayk, Iselin Steir Smalls, Julia Nobis, Karen Elson, Karlie Kloss, Lexiboling, Lina Zhang, Linda Evangelista, Liya Kebede, Lulu Tenney, Mariacarla Boscono, Marisaberenson, Maty Fall, Meghan Collison, Mona Taugaard, Naomi Campbell, Natasha Poly, Palomaelsser Porizkova, Penelope Tree, Priceus Lee, Rianne Van Rompaey, Rosalieke Fuchs, Sascharajasalu, Sasha Pivovarova, Sora Choi, Twiggy, Vittoria Ceretti and Yasmin Warsame.
With Karl Templer as a stylist, these 50 iconic models show each of the new Zara collection specifically for this event.
As is the sign of the firm for decades, the team that has done the work is made up of the most prestigious names of the industry. The makeup is in charge of Pat McGrath (usual in all the big catwalks, creator of her own makeup line, an artist behind hundreds of large campaigns and current of luxury, from Chanel to Vuitton). All of them are Meisel collaborators for a long time. In the words of Marta Ortega Pérez: “Creativity is Zara’s heart, it is the characteristic that defines us. This incredible Steven Meisel film is an expression of creative freedom and magic that we always want to create. And it is starred by 50 of the most outstanding models of the world – known by its beauty, but also by its character, its individuality and strength – that celebrate the 50th anniversary of Zara. Everything that Zara teams have created in the last five decades, honoring their enthusiasm, talent and creativity without limits. ”
The campaign is also a celebration of the importance of teamwork and relationships within the fashion world: Meisel’s unique link with the models, which insufferates them a special charisma before the cameras, in addition to Zara’s invitation to his clients to join this milestone that tries to celebrate five decades of fashion.
Zara’s first store
But although Zara’s projection is absolutely global, the firm does not forget its local origins: that is why this celebration includes a very clear tribute to its first store, which opened on Juan Flórez street in A Coruña on May 9, 1975 and that follows there. Today has been reopened with the presence of Marta Ortega herself. The new interior design of the establishment, a temporary installation, is a tribute to the characteristics of white -wood coruña galleries that are part of the city’s architectural DNA.

The installation houses a unique sample of limited editing parts and objects. The playful character of the design and the imaginative use of the scale are conceived to surprise visitors, who can also access a cafeteria and a boutique room in which to leaf through shelves full of a wide collection of magazines published from May 1975 until today, an opportunity to rediscover 50 years of fashion, art and culture.
In this way, the Juan Flórez store becomes not only a celebration of the brand, but also of the architecture and history of the city.
