The sprin Bruno Hortelano, double European medalist – as of 200 meters in Amsterdam 2016 and Bronze in Berlin 2018 in 4×400— and worldwide silver on covered track, announced his withdrawal of the athletics tracks on Sunday after 15 years of international competition. The athlete has issued a statement in which he has reported his goodbye. “For those who have followed my sports career, thanks and see you later! After 15 years in international sport, I have hung my shoes. I retire,” Hortelano started.
“I started in 2010 represented in Spain in the Junior World Championship, since then a personal tour was promoted in search of the speed that has allowed me to travel and know a lot of world for a decade and a half. It has also allowed me to make a much more significant trip, the introspective of knowing myself better, in everything beautiful and in everything painful,” he said.
The holder of the three Spanish records in 100m, 200m and 400m smooth has not stopped so much in learning during these years after his successes and defeats, but has focused his speech on the people who accompanied him on this path. “The first and what I want most is to give recognition to my people, who make up my current life, my present and future,” says Hortelano.
Hortelano has focused much of his message in his wife. “It has been a long way of years in many very lonely moments, but from 2022 my life was blessed because My path became Our path. Three years ago I had the immense fortune of meeting my wife, my person, to the love of my life. “I have dreamed of sport and I have invited to dream, but visualize the creation of our family and carry it out with all our love has no comparison. I have been athlete and so I have considered myself, but what gives me definition and meaning above all others, are them, my nucleus, without a doubt, as a man, husband and father,” said the athlete. And he adds: “I have discovered my biggest treasure in my family. So, by Evelyne, Nico, Chloe and Vega, I formally say goodbye to professional sport,” Hortelano sentence in his statement.
After almost a year since his last competition, on July 6, 2024 in the Spanish Championship of Autonomous Federations in La Nucía (Alicante), the athlete born in Australia says his final goodbye at age 34.
