Both the United States and Ukraine have underlined this Thursday their satisfaction for the signing of their economic collaboration agreement, so many times and that, finally, gives an argument to the administration of President Donald Trump to lean more towards kyiv in the process of negotiations for a peace agreement in the war initiated by Russia. The Ukrainian Parliament could ratify the pact next week, according to Washington. The language of the US government is now remarkably more sharp in favor of its ally: “There are no fissures between the American and Ukrainian peoples,” said Treasury Secretary, Scott Besent, one day after signing the agreement with the Vice Prime Minister Ukraine and head of Economics, Yulia Sviridenko. “It is a firm signal to Russian leadership and gives the capacity to President Trump to negotiate with Russia from an even more solid position.”
The White House has been undone in praise on the signed document – “Historical” and “The first of this type of economic alliance for reconstruction and long -term economic success of Ukraine” – as Trump spokeswoman, Karoline Leavitt, in a press conference. The pact “demonstrates how interested the president is in achieving a lasting peace,” he added.
The agreement, which stipulates the creation of a fund for which the United States will have priority access to new investment projects to exploit Ukrainian natural wealth, is beneficial for both. The Trump administration allows to presume before its voters that it has achieved tangible economic benefits of help to Ukraine. To kyiv, again wasington’s support after months in which Trump was much closer to Moscow’s thesis than to those of the invaded country.
In statements this Thursday, President Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, has attributed the signing of the agreement to his conversation with Trump last weekend in the Vatican Basilica of San Pedro during the funerals by Pope Francis. It is true that, from that conversation alone – unlike the previous one, the humiliating public rappe to Zelenski in the White House on January 28 -, the president’s tone about the war has changed, to become much more critical to Russia. Trump has questioned Putin’s sincerity on peace and threatened him with new sanctions.
The part of Ukraine injuries in the last hours continues to show that the war maintains its course. Two dead and dozens of injured after the launch of about 200 drones and missiles in different regions of the country. The signing of the agreement for the exploitation of minerals between kyiv and Washington is only one of the many necessary milestones on the way for the end of the war to approach.

It will serve for Washington to continue supporting kyiv while the contest lasts and so that, afterwards, he will continue to do so during the reconstruction. It is not BaladÃ, taking into account that it is the country that has cemented the Ukraine defense since Russia launched the great invasion in February 2022 and the one that in the best position of power is to press the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.
But, ahead, the fire claimed is the fire as an apparent stage prior to true negotiations that feel the foundations for moving the path of peace. At the moment, the possibility that both parties in conflict, aggressors and attacked are felt together, as claims the United States, is not even ottea on the horizon. Everything that has been in recent weeks have been indirect contacts that also realize how far the positions are, which place the advance towards the end of the contest in dead road. In fact, achieved Wednesday’s signature, Washington wants to focus now that kyiv and Moscow close positions.
Counterweight to Trump’s strategy
In any case, the play of accepting an agreement that allows Washington to share the exploitation of its subsoil benefits kyiv in two ways. On the one hand, it serves to heal the coup that was for Volodimir Zelenski to enclose her in the White House on February 28. That day the possibility of endorsing the closed pact now. On the other hand, the signature of the mineral entente serves Ukraine counterweight against the strategy outlined by Trump to end the war, which passes through kyiv gives territory to the Russian invader.

The Trump Entrepreneur, helped by the pragmatism of a Zelenski in need of allies, has been imposed with the agreement of the minerals to the political Trump of the threats, the orders and the erratic statements.
“The agreement is a benefit for the economic and security policy of the United States,” says John Herbst, former Ukraine exembass. “For the US it is essential to have partners that provide critical minerals. But what is even more important, this agreement gives Trump, in terms that he understands, a specific interest in the long -term survival of Ukraine as a safe and economically viable state,” he adds.
The signing of the Economic Cooperation Agreement between the United States and Ukraine has begun to bear fruit immediately: the Trump administration has informed the Congress that plans to export armament bought by Ukraine, worth more than 50 million dollars, as published in kyiv the newspaper in English in English Kyiv Post.
It is the first package of new military assistance to Ukraine (kyiv buys that material, instead of being donated as happened during the first three years of war). It is a clear message of support to the busy country, and an even clearer warning to Moscow to feel the negotiating table and seriously address a peace agreement.
The text of the agreement, released by the US government, maintains a critical tone with the Kremlin, to refer to the “large -scale invasion” of Russia in Ukraine and ensure that “no state or person who has financed” the war that “takes advantage” of it will be allowed. kyiv also obtains other benefits, explicit or implicit: the pact does not mention that the income that Washington will obtain are considered payments for previous military aid, as the White House had demanded, and opens a route for the United States to resume the supply of defense equipment to the occupied country. kyiv would pay that armament through the new fund, which would also be used to finance the reconstruction once the war is over.
The Pact, which will probably be ratified by the Parliament of Ukraine in the middle of the month -or before, according to the White House -only plans to share the benefits of new licenses granted from its entry into force and must therefore respect the contracts already in force, which will not be affected. The signed cannot interfere with European kyiv-Union relations or in the process that can end Ukraine being part of that institution
